"Keys to Loving Relationships" March 8th

Potluck Lunch at 12:30pm, (after the Sunday morning worship service). "Keys to Loving Relationships" at 1:30pm. There is no charge and everyone is welcome.

"Your Best You" by Bonnie Grove

Have you ever tried to change something about yourself but had a hard time making it stick? If so, Bonnie Grove knows how you feel. The problem, she explains, is that when it comes to self-improvement, most of us start by asking ourselves the wrong questions.

Instead of, What are my weaknesses? How can I fix them? we should be asking, What are my strengths? How can I build on them?

This book is not a one-size-fits-all approach to lifestyle change. It doesn’t offer a ten-step formula or a one-minute prayer that guarantees success in 30 days.

This book is about you. It’s about discovering and developing what you do well, what you love, and what brings you joy so you can see yourself the way God sees youand begin to truly receive His best for your life.

Unlike some self-improvement books, you won’t be asked to:

* spend time digging around in the past
* put your problems under a microscope
* try and fix everything that’s “broken” in your life
* improve on things you’re not very good at

Instead, the author gives you tools and resources to help you:

* discover what you’re good at—not what you think you should be good at
* develop your strengths and use them to offset your weaknesses
* learn to recognize your true goals
* create a personalized map to follow as you begin your journey to becoming your best you

Available March 1, 2009 at bookstores everywhere.

We'll get it to our Southside Church (northern Alberta collection depot) on the 24th who will get it to Calgary by the 27th, who will get it to Orlando, Florida in time for Geneal Assembly. $$$ Savers in these hard times: New Life for Old Computers

Uncle B Says:

Please donate your old computers to a church-group or some needy student in these hard times!

To comply with the law, and with Microsoft’s policy, you can now replace the old Microsoft OS with the free Ubuntu OS, which can be set to erase the hard drive of all traces of the “illegal to give away ” Microsoft system and your private information, before donation!

Now, explain to your lucky recipient that all the manuals they will ever need are available for free on the internet!

Just ask for them in Google! OpenOffice.org, which is installed already is plenty adequate for homework assignments and everything else can work well too!

Happy computing!

Proclamation from the Board of General Superintendents

(see the original on the sanctuary door)
  • Whereas we are aware of the global financial crisis, and
  • Whereas we stand before God as needy people, and
  • Whereas God is sufficient to meet every need,
the Board of General Superintendents of the Church of the Nazarene is issuing a call to prayer and fasting beginning 22 February 2009 through Easter. This call, which closely coincides with the Lenten season, is a time of prayer of compassion for every nation, for every local church, and for the resources necessary to carry out our global mission: to make Christlike disciples in the
nations. The Board issues this call with the confidence that God will hear His people and answer
their prayers.

Recession Affects the Church of the Nazarene

1. Across the Canada West District, with just two months left in the church year, our World Evangelism Fund is only 42% paid, and the District Investment in Ministry is 60% paid. Our District superintendent has asked that we pray especially for a miraculous Easgter offering for the work of World Missions.

2. And from the General Church comes word that due to a 10% year-to-date Word Evangelism Fund decrease, the Board is moving ahead with cost reductions of at least 10% within the Global Ministry Center and regional offices.

Fill a Tool Box for Kenya

Reg Garrett (403-875-0731) (reggarrett@yahoo.ca) and his wife Cathy are volunteering at the AIC Litein Hospital in Kenya. About two years ago he became aware of the acute shortage of good hand tools in the country, began collecting them, selling them to local tradesmen and using the proceeds to help support the Paliative Care program in the hospital where they are volunteering. The funds are used primarily for pain medication and also for a compassion fund to help people who cannot afford to pay their hospital bills. Lets make this a "Children's Missionary Project." Reg is looking for any hand tools: saws, chisels, planes, tri-squares, plumbing and mechanics tools, etc.

Top Ten Things You Never Hear In Church

1 Hey! It’s my turn to sit in the front pew.
2 I was so enthralled, I never noticed your sermon went 25 minutes over time.
3 Personally I find witnessing much more enjoyable than golf.
4 I’ve decided to give our church the $500 a month I used to send to TV evangelists.
5 I volunteer to be the permanent teacher for the Junior High Sunday School class.
6 Forget the denominational minimum salary, let’s pay our pastor so he can live like we do.
7 I love it when we sing hymns I’ve never heard before!
8 Since we’re all here, let’s start the service early.
9 Pastor, we’d like to send you to this Bible seminar in the Bahamas next February.
10 Nothing inspires me and strengthens my commitment like our annual stewardship campaign!

Obama at the Prayer Breakfast

To quote from his remarks…

I didn’t become a Christian until many years later, when I moved to the South Side of Chicago after college. It happened not because of indoctrination or a sudden revelation, but because I spent month after month working with church folks who simply wanted to help neighbors who were down on their luck - no matter what they looked like, or where they came from, or who they prayed to. It was on those streets, in those neighborhoods, that I first heard God’s spirit beckon me. It was there that I felt called to a higher purpose - His purpose.
